Singer IU (IU) returned in style, sweeping domestic and international major music charts with her new digital single "From this star."
The title track of the same name, released at 6 p.m. on the 10th, immediately rose to No. 1 on Melon HOT100 (based on 30-day·100-day release criteria), Jini TOP200, and Bugs real-time chart upon release, and ranked No. 2 on Melon TOP100. Another title track "Dear my crazy soulmate" also settled at No. 2 on Melon HOT100 and Bugs real-time chart and No. 3 on Jini TOP200, dominating the top ranks and proving its unrivaled music power.
Global listeners' response is also intense. As of 7 a.m. on the 11th, "From this star" entered charts in 16 countries and regions, including No. 1 on iTunes top songs in Singapore and Taiwan, and No. 2 in Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. "Dear my crazy soulmate" also proudly appeared on charts in nine regions, including No. 1 in Sri Lanka. This single is a new song released one year after "Bye, summer," announced in September last year, and serves as a pre-release for the upcoming sixth full-length album. IU wrote the lyrics for both songs herself, infusing them with her own deep sensibility.
The music video for "Dear my crazy soulmate," unveiled along with the song, captures attention with outstanding performances by actors across generations. Starring actors Kim Young-ok, Na Moon-hee, IU, Shim Dal-gi, and Esom, the video depicts, like a film, the heartwarming and humorous friendship between Young-ok, who is imprisoned in a prison by a quirky method for a friend's birthday, and prison guard Moon-hee.
