JYP Entertainment said news has emerged that the new headquarters construction project has effectively been completely scrapped.
On the 10th, JYP Entertainment declined to elaborate to OSEN regarding rumors that it was withdrawing from the new headquarters construction project, saying, "We are considering various options for future responses."
Earlier, JYP on 2023 won the bid from the Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH) for 10,675 square meters of land designated for distribution and sales facilities in the Godeok-Gangil district for about 75.5 billion won, launching plans to build a new headquarters. The new headquarters was designed by "star architect" Yoo Hyun-jun, a professor at Hongik University, and was planned to be built in 2028 with three basement levels, 17 aboveground floors and a total floor area of 69,259 square meters.
However, SH and the Gangdong district office put constraints on the plan by changing the park land located 20 meters in front of the planned new headquarters site to land for self-sustaining support facilities. Originally, JYP planned the new headquarters as a ring-shaped building surrounding an inner courtyard to harmonize with the surrounding landscape while protecting the privacy of building users. But because a site only 20 meters away was allowed to have buildings of 18 to 19 floors, JYP is facing difficulties not only in protecting privacy as originally planned but also in creating open spaces.
Meanwhile, on the 10th Professor Yoo Hyun-jun drew attention by telling the media in an interview, "I received notice from JYP the day before expressing their position on withdrawing from the project," and saying, "It appears to be heading toward complete scrapping." He explained that they internally concluded on complete scrapping because it became difficult to restore the park land — a key condition for continuing the project — and SH rejected a compromise proposal.
JYP has maintained its previous position of "considering various options for future responses" and is taking a cautious stance.
