Composer and broadcaster Don Spike is restarting his food business.
On the 9th, Don Spike posted a photo on his personal channel with the caption "Almost there. Just a few final touches left," updating fans on his whereabouts.
The photo showed the exterior wall of a restaurant overlooking the sea. On the wall were the words 'BARBACOA (barbacoa),' referring to a method of cooking meat for a long time, along with the phrase 'by donspike,' indicating it is a restaurant operated by Don Spike.
In September 2022, Don Spike was arrested at a motel in Gangnam District, Seoul, on charges of possessing and using drugs. It was revealed that he used methamphetamine a total of 14 times and reportedly gave methamphetamine and ecstasy to others a total of seven times. He was also accused of possessing about 20 grams of methamphetamine.
In court, Don Spike, who admitted all charges, said he reflected, saying, "I forgot that I should be a social role model and caused great pain and disappointment to my family who loves me and the many people who supported me. It is my fault and there is no excuse. I deeply feel how serious my wrongdoing was and I sincerely reflect on it. I will recover from addiction, never reoffend and become a social role model."
In the first trial he was sentenced to three years in prison with a five-year suspended sentence, and prosecutors appealed saying the sentence was too light; in the appellate court he was sentenced to two years in prison. Don Spike appealed against that decision, but the Supreme Court did not accept the appeal, confirming the prison sentence.
After serving his sentence, Don Spike returned to society in early March last year and, after his release, he is known to have been spending time in self-reflection while participating in the management of a restaurant located in Yongsan District, Seoul.
Although Don Spike has not officially returned to broadcasting, he has appeared publicly to frankly talk about why he fell into drug addiction and about his treatment and recovery process, warning of the dangers of drugs.
At the time, Don Spike warned, "At first I thought I could control and manage it. But at some point you cross the line, you lose control and your life falls apart," and said, "If there is one thing I gained from this incident, it is the thought, 'I was caught and survived.' If I had not been caught and had continued to hide and use drugs, I would probably be dead now."
