Actor Lee Sang-woon captured public attention with an overwhelming performance as Jae-cheol, a gambling addict, in the Netflix series 'Mousetrap,' which was released in full on Aug. 28.
The tracking thriller "Mousetrap" depicts the tangled story of novelist Moon-jae (played by Ryu Jun-yeol), whose name and life are completely stolen by a mysterious presence; loan shark No-ja (played by Sul Kyung-gu), who tries to recover lost money; and detective Sun-yong (played by Lee Kyu-hyung), who digs into Mousetrap's trail.
In this work, Jae-cheol, portrayed by Lee Sang-woon, squanders an entire building on gambling and incurs massive debt again, putting his life at risk. In the drama, he plays a pivotal role by revealing key information to No-ja and bringing the reality of identity-washing crimes to the surface.
Lee Sang-woon vividly portrayed Jae-cheol's intense anxiety—unable to guarantee tomorrow's life while chased by debt collectors—through rough speech, wavering eyes and subtle facial changes. Critics say he convincingly shaped the desperate inner struggle struggling to escape the edge, further heightening the work's taut tension.
Even within such an extreme setup, viewers praise the realistic acting that could exist in real life, saying, "If you fall into gambling, you would really look like that." Lee Sang-woon's true value, maximizing immersion as a powerful scene-stealer, can be seen in the currently highly streamed "Mousetrap."
