Lee Ji-hyun, formerly of the group Jewelry, talked about the wounds left by appearing on "Golden Child My Child."
On the 9th on the YouTube channel "Saeropge Hasoseo," Jewelry alum Lee Ji-hyun appeared and shared her story.
Previously, Lee Ji-hyun appeared on Channel A "Golden Child My Child," honestly confessed that her son Woo-kyung has ADHD, and showed a process of significant change through Dr. Oh Eun-young's solutions.
Lee Ji-hyun recalled, "Woo-kyung was different from ordinary children and really wanted to meet Dr. Oh Eun-young," and said, "Separately from the doctor, filming means filming does not take place in front of the doctor. At first, my son's problems did not appear clearly. So the production team said, 'If we do it like this we can't find the problems, so let's stimulate the child to pinpoint the exact problems.' There were parts where they stimulated him like that. Only those parts were edited and broadcast, so I was really taken aback."
She added, "There were parts where they stimulated him like that. Broadcasting can't be helped, can it" while to some extent acknowledging the nature of broadcasting, and continued, "But it went out in ways I never imagined. I'm used to insults about me, but insults about my child… I did it with the intention of making the child better, so I couldn't bear it. I'm sorry about the child. At the time I don't usually read comments, but I saw the ones about the child and it felt like flesh being torn apart," making viewers feel distressed. "I was so surprised that they edited out only those parts. People really can't see even one step ahead," she added.
She also said, "People sometimes talk to the child about being on TV, and he hates it very much," but showed a positive mindset by adding, "He says he has bad memories, but he says, 'Thanks to that I met teacher Oh Eun-young.'"
Earlier on another broadcast, Lee Ji-hyun opened up about this, saying, "Why did I do that then? I blame myself a lot. We filmed, but the broadcast flowed differently from what we planned and thought. The production said that only by seeing the child's really bad parts during filming can they accurately diagnose and correct them, so there were parts where they stimulated the child a lot," and lamented, "They compiled those stimulated parts and edited them, so it aired and the backlash made me feel so sorry for the child. I'm fine, but don't the things the child hears outside hurt him too much?"
She said, "What still hurts so much in my heart is that I traveled to the United States with the children. But Woo-kyung (my son) said, 'Mom, when we go to America people won't know I'm a Golden Child, will they?'" and finally burst into tears.
Meanwhile, Lee Ji-hyun has been raising her daughter and son alone after two divorces in 2016 and 2020. She is recently working as a hair salon owner.<
