Tazza' former series directors' 20th anniversary congratulatory video has been released.
To celebrate the release of Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub (director: Choi Guk-hee, distributor/provider: CJ ENM, provider/producer: Sidus), director Choi Dong-hoon of the first film Tazza, director Kang Hyeong-cheol of the second film Tazza: The Hand of God, and director Kwon Oh-kwang of the third film Tazza: One-Eyed Jack stepped forward to deliver congratulatory messages. They spoke about their ties to the series, what 20 years has left behind, and their support for the final installment, increasing anticipation among prospective viewers for the film.
First, director Choi Dong-hoon, who directed the first Tazza released in 2006, said, "As the director who made the first film, I am very happy and honored," and noted, "Tazza is actually a very difficult film to make. It is a film in which you can hear the sound of the chain of desire turning," explaining why the series has been loved. Choi Dong-hoon, who said he paid most attention to the fourth of the four original volumes, hinted, "There has even been talk about why make parts one through three first instead of making part four first, because 'Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub' is the most enjoyable and the most suspenseful."
Next, director Kang Hyeong-cheol, who directed Tazza: The Hand of God in 2014, recalled his ties to the series, saying, "After seeing that tremendous first Tazza film, I thought that if I ever became a director I would like to do one of the films in that kind of series someday." He added his support, saying, "I give great applause for enduring the hardship and overcoming the adversity of making a complex and difficult film like Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub."
Finally, director Kwon Oh-kwang, who directed Tazza: One-Eyed Jack in 2019, said, "Because I was a fan of the Tazza comics and films when I was young, it was a great honor to continue that world and make a film," and expressed anticipation for the series' final installment, saying, "In the end, it seems that it is the audience who complete a film. The burden you must have felt as a director was considerable, but I believe you have sublimated it into a good work."
Meanwhile, the final Tazza film, Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, is a crime film in which Jang Tae-young (played by Byun Yo-Han), who thought he had the world with his online casino business, and his close friend with the same name who took everything from him, Park Tae-young (played by Roh Jae Won), meet again on a global gambling stage and engage in a final match of revenge. It is a crime-entertainment drama with a completely different story from the previous three films, one that can be enjoyed even without having seen the earlier series.
Putting poker front and center instead of hwatu and expanding the stage beyond Korea to Japan and Vietnam, this installment breaks away from the interconnected world of the previous three films and directly deals with the friendship, betrayal and revenge of two friends who share the same name. Heo Yeong's original Tazza comic series' final installment, Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub, opens on Sep. 23.
