(continuing from interview ①) actor Kang Hoon said he made efforts to develop romantic chemistry with Kim Hye Jun in the series.
On the afternoon of the 9th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, a closing interview was held with Kang Hoon, the lead actor of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama My Bias, My Boss.
My Bias, My Boss, which ended on the 8th, is an office coming-of-age romance about new employee Nam Da-reum, who became an employee at My Bias while trying to meet his bias. In the series, Kang Hoon played Kang Ha-gi, the CEO of the fashion platform Appello, and drew a love line with Kim Hye Jun, who played Nam Da-reum, a new employee who followed E-Chan (played by Cha Woomin) to his company.
Kang Hoon, who said he had been a fan of Kim Hye Jun, also said that one of the reasons he chose My Bias, My Boss was Kim Hye Jun. He said, I went through many difficult situations, but she did well on set. The weather was bad, and the rainy scenes were shot in winter. Even though it was hard, she didn't act like it was hard, she was very bright and showed leadership, so I thought she deserved praise. She could have collapsed but she endured and did well, so she was a colleague I could learn a lot from. She was a good person I still keep in frequent contact with, and I think that chemistry came out well, he said in admiration.
About Cha Woomin he said, I felt that although he is much younger, his attitude toward the work and his worries on set are mature. He was free on set. I'm not that free in front of the camera, so I want to be like that and I thought there's a lot to emulate. He had a positive influence. I think the three of us gained good friends to the point that we often messaged each other in a group chat, he said, describing their real-life chemistry.
When asked whether he referred to any works while acting as the lead in his first romantic comedy, Kang Hoon said, There are scenes in which protagonists show love. I looked at many scenes that reveal affection. I didn't want to do the same as previous works. I wanted to express it differently, so I researched a lot. Even for the kiss scene, I thought I had to love Nam Da-reum as played by Kim Hye Jun, so we talked a lot on set and I watched many of Kim Hye Jun's works while trying continuously to love that character. I thought that eyes that have fallen in love can be seen even on screen, so although other works showed that too, I thought I should love her more, he said, describing his efforts.
However, Kim Hye Jun has been active in the thriller genre. To that, Kang Hoon joked, As I searched, I found many works with bloody scenes. But when she briefly appeared on variety shows she showed a lovable side, and that aspect matched many of her different portrayals. So I looked for a lot of variety shows. While her works are charming, I thought the Hye Jun in variety shows was the most ideal version of the Nam Da-reum I love, he said with a laugh.
When asked how they relied on each other and created the work, given that neither had much experience in romantic comedy, Kang Hoon recalled, During breaks we talked a lot, and while filming we kept discussing the scenes and tried to align our best ideas to continuously create the best options. The director additionally guided us and we kept adjusting our chemistry, he said.
He added, After watching many romances, I felt that it's good when the female actor looks pretty in romance dramas. So I talked about that from the first time we met, and I always asked, Hye Jun, which angle do you like? I told her to stand where she looks pretty for the camera. She also yielded on parts where I needed to look good. I think we matched our breathing well, he said, expressing satisfaction. (to be continued in interview ③)
