Comedian Lee Hyuk-jae was booked by police after colliding with a motorcycle while driving under the influence.
On the 9th police say the Incheon Yeonsu Police Station has booked Lee Hyuk-jae without detention on suspicion of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act and is investigating.
Lee Hyuk-jae is accused of hitting a motorcycle that was waiting at a signal while driving a vehicle in a drunken state on a road in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu District, Incheon, around 10 p.m. the previous day.
The motorcycle rider reported the accident to the police, and Lee Hyuk-jae's blood alcohol concentration at the time was reported to be between 0.03% and less than 0.08%, a level that results in license suspension.
Lee Hyuk-jae debuted as a comedian in MBC's 10th public recruitment in 1999. He also worked as an actor, appearing in variety shows such as "Happy Sunday", "Sponge", "Star Golden Bell", and "Find X-man", and in dramas and films such as "The Ages of Wanderers" and "Superstar 감사용".
He has been embroiled in controversies over large tax delinquencies and alleged drunken assault, and he also faced criticism over fairness when he became a judge for a youth talent discovery program organized by the People Power Party ahead of local elections.
In response, Lee Hyuk-jae said he was disappointed, saying "This is not even yesterday's matter; they call me a celebrity who caused a stir over something from 10 years ago. I'm not broadcasting now, I declared I would not appear on broadcast and live as a private citizen, so why are they so eager to ruin me?"
