'Radio Star' communication expert Kim Chang-ok recently revealed his surprising healing process along with his recent immersion in lacquer work.
On the 9th broadcast, MBC's 'Radio Star' featured a special titled 'Feeling it rise~ let's go! Artists' with Kim Chang-ok, Jang Ki-ha, Swings and Jeon So-yeon appearing.
Kim Chang-ok said he has recently been into 'lacquer work,' drawing attention. He recounted a humorous misunderstanding from those around him, saying, "When I said I was doing lacquer work, people said, 'So you're doing fashion after all,'" and clarified that it was not clothing but a flat painting using tree sap, 'lacquer painting.'
He went on to reveal an unexpected reason he became fascinated with lacquer painting. Although he has comforted many people through lectures, he said he began to reflect on himself after being frequently asked, "Where do you get comfort, teacher?"
Kim Chang-ok confessed that he picked up a brush to fill an emotional void, saying, "I couldn't find the right words. Maybe the reason I was comforting others was because I wanted to be comforted myself. Then one day I just liked the color of the seal brown. That became the trigger for me to learn the craft."
In particular, the broadcast also conveyed the hardships of the process, which shocked viewers. In response to the question, "Don't you have a lacquer allergy?" Kim Chang-ok said that every time he works he gets lacquer poisoning all over his body and his eyes even swell.
As for why he does not take allergy medicine despite that, he said, "I feel like I'll do lacquer work for the rest of my life, and I don't think I should keep taking medicine, so I don't take it," and added, "It still itches a lot," revealing his exceptional 'lacquer poisoning fighting spirit.'
But the results of continuing lacquer work despite enduring such pain were remarkable. Kim Chang-ok emphasized that he became truly mentally healthy while doing lacquer work, saying, "I actually stopped all the hospital medications," and revealed that he is not taking any psychiatric medicine now, surprising the studio.
