It has been one year since Da-young of the group WJSN opened her own world.
On Sept. 9 last year, Da-young announced her start as a solo artist by releasing her first digital single, gonna love me, right?(고나 럽 미, 롸잇?), nearly nine years after her debut.
Through "body(바디)," which clearly revealed her unique musical color, Da-young showed the sincerity of her new challenge and, as a result, captivated many listeners, entering the top ranks of the Melon TOP100 and ranking No. 1 on VIBE's domestic rising chart, followed by charting on major music platforms such as Genie, Bugs, Flo and YouTube Music.
In addition, Da-young's solo debut was highlighted by Forbes, the British music magazine NME and FOX 13 Seattle, as well as MTV channels in various countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan and Italy.
After her solo debut with "body," she took her first music show trophy and was recognized for her competitiveness as a solo artist by winning best solo artist (female) at the 2025 KGMA. She was also included in NME's "2025 best K-pop songs 25," Billboard's "The 25 best K-pop songs of 2025: staff picks," and The Hollywood Reporter's "The best K-pop songs of 2025."
Riding the momentum, in April she released her second digital single, What's a girl to do(왓츠 어 걸 투 두), participating directly in album planning and production overall as well as writing and composing all tracks, further expressing her musical color and narrative more three-dimensionally and showing more developed musical capabilities.
At the 35th Seoul Music Awards, where she won two trophies including best solo artist, Da-young, who has shown a firmer position as a solo artist, challenged a collaboration single for the first time since her debut and released FLIRTY(플러티) with Park Jae-beom, showcasing a different musical charm and expanding her spectrum.
Marking the first anniversary of her solo debut, she said, "I can't believe it's already been a year since my solo debut song 'body' came out; time really feels like it has flown by. I have been truly happy and busy over the past year, so every moment is very precious and I am grateful."
She added, "I think all of this was possible thanks to WOOJUNG (the official fan club name) and everyone who loves my music. I am sincerely grateful that you believe in and look forward to the music and performances of the person called 'Da-young' and support me. I will continue to work harder on music and repay you with good music and performances on a variety of stages."
