'Global rookie' UNIS is remaking the legendary 1990s hit "Haneulttang Byeolttang" to pursue generational unity.
UNIS (Hyeonju, Nana, Gehlee, Kotoko, Bang Yunha, Elicia, O Yuna, Lim Seowon) will release the remake single "Haneulttang Byeolttang" today (the 8th) at noon on various online music sites.
This new song is a reinterpretation of the 1997 hit "Haneulttang Byeolttang" by the female duo VV, which received explosive love, rendered in UNIS's own kitschy charm and trendy K-pop sound. It preserves the original's bouncy, lively melody and energy to evoke welcome nostalgia for the older generation while offering fresh appeal to Gen-Z. The lyrics also retain familiar public touchpoints while being partially restructured to suit modern sensibilities.
Following the music release, a promotional video will be unveiled at 6 p.m. that day. In the video, UNIS members will showcase retro styling and their characteristic bright, buoyant energy to stimulate Y2K sensibilities.
Earlier, UNIS solidified their global standing by reaching No. 4 on the Oricon daily album chart and No. 15 on the Billboard Japan top album sales chart with their first Japanese mini album released in July, "UNI☆Sparkle!." Expectations are high for the new direction UNIS will show with the remake "Haneulttang Byeolttang."
