Actor Gary Oldman claimed that the next James Bond in the 007 film series has been decided.
On the 7th (local time), Page Six reported, "Gary Oldman said in an interview with Canada's The Morning Show that the next James Bond has been decided, and that he supports Slow Horses partner Jack Lowden taking on the iconic role."
Oldman said, "There are rumors that Jack Lowden is on the final shortlist for 007," and noted, "You will know soon. Because they have chosen him. They have made a selection, but they have not announced it yet."
He added that he hopes Jack Lowden, who co-stars in Slow Horses, will take on the role of James Bond, saying, "I wish him luck." Lowden has not responded to recent rumors about 007.
But Lowden's wife, actor Saoirse Ronan, recently said she would like to play a villain in the 007 series, saying, "I want to do a dark role. I said I want to be a Bond villain, and I'm really serious about it."
Ronan said, "I think it would be really interesting to have a young female villain. Especially to see girls and women take all the anger they've been repressing and direct it somewhere — I think there's something dramatically interesting about that. So I would like to play that kind of role."
Earlier, in May, Amazon MGM Studios was reported to have begun holding actor auditions for the 007 role for several weeks. The next James Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve of the Dune series, and names mentioned have included Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Paul Mescal and Harris Dickinson.
