'Love On The Menu' Ha Seok-jin learned about Ahn Heeyeon's painful past and all the truths, bringing a new change to the relationship between the two.
On the 6th, the KBS 2TV weekend drama 'Love On The Menu' (directed by Hong Seok-gu, written by Lee Kyung-hee) episode 14 depicted Han Gyurim (played by Ahn Heeyeon) struggling to rebuild her relationship with her son Han-gyeol (played by Younha-bin), who had shut the door on his heart.
That broadcast recorded a viewership rating of 17.2% (Nielsen Korea, nationwide households 기준) and set a new personal best. It took first place among weekend broadcasts overall, continuing its hot box office momentum.
That day Kim Moo-jin (played by Ha Seok-jin) asked Han Gyurim, "What kind of life did you live for eight years after abandoning me?" But Han Gyurim deliberately ignored him and left, and Kim Moo-jin could not hide his bitter expression as he watched her walk away.
The next dawn, Han-gyeol told the family that he was not Han Gyurim's biological son. When asked "Did you see your mother give birth to you?" and the family answered "No," Han-gyeol, confirming the truth he already suspected, swallowed his tears in sorrow. Han-gyeol's unexpected confession threw the Han household into confusion and raised the tension.
A tense atmosphere also flowed between Kim Moo-jin and Go Yoon-hee (played by Yoon Yoo-seon). Facing Go Yoon-hee, who apologized to him, Kim Moo-jin asked pointedly, "Aren't you sorry to Gyurim?" But Go Yoon-hee coldly drew a line, saying she had lived forgetting her biological daughter and would not meet her in the future.
Kim Moo-jin's resentment toward Go Yoon-hee's cruel and selfish attitude contained the sorrow and tenderness he felt for Han Gyurim, who must have borne the wounds alone.
Having firmly closed her heart, Han-gyeol coldly pushed Han Gyurim away on the way to school, calling her "ajumma." When her son treated her like a stranger, Han Gyurim could not hide her conflicted feelings but soon gathered herself. Then she yelled at the top of her lungs toward her son, "I am Han-gyeol's mother."
Han Gyurim's desperate maternal love, trying to make her presence known so the whole world could hear, evoked pity.
Meanwhile, Kim Moo-jin learned about the past Han Gyurim had gone through from her younger brother Han Gyumin (played by Kim Min-seo). Han Gyumin revealed that in the past Han Gyurim showed him an ultrasound photo while heavily pregnant.
Shocked to learn that Han Gyurim actually experienced pregnancy and childbirth, Kim Moo-jin remembered her having endured all that pain alone and reddened with rising guilt.
Confused by her father Jang Hoon-tae's (played by Kwon Hae-hyo) lie, Jang Seo-hyeon (played by Lee Joo-yeon) suggested to Kim Moo-jin that they run away together. But Kim Moo-jin firmly said, "Let's just see each other sometimes," and Jang Seo-hyeon showed her hurt.
Although she resented Kim Moo-jin for not giving her a place in his heart, Jang Seo-hyeon soon composed herself and told him to go to Han Gyurim. In the end, the two chose their own paths and put a full stop to their relationship.
At the end of the broadcast, Han Gyurim's story of losing a child in the past, her despair, and how she ended up embracing a friend's abandoned child was revealed.
Han Gyurim could not bring herself to leave the child in the baby box. Clumsy but with all her strength, she raised Han-gyeol. Remembering the time she had passed, Han Gyurim cried, and Kim Moo-jin called her; from his voice alone he realized she was crying.
Then Kim Moo-jin said, "I'm coming to you now." That single line made Han Gyurim's eyes tremble and foreshadowed a new change in their relationship.
