Actor Mu Jin-seong is showing a surprising charm that alternates between a cold, brilliant hacker and an awkward novice in romance in A Bona fide Killer.
Mu Jin-seong played Ki Young-do, deputy manager of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics and a genius hacker, in episodes 11 and 12 of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama A Bona fide Killer. When facing incidents he leads situations with cold judgment, but in front of Kwon Seah (Lee Eunsaem) he is at a loss, showing a stark contrast in temperature that added to the entertainment.
After Ki Young-do learned of the long relationship between Kwon Seah and Beom Seong-hoon (Choi Woo-Sung), he began to be conscious of their relationship. He took a step closer by suggesting they meet alone without Beom Seong-hoon, but when it came to love he could not hide his nervousness. Struggling and even asking Oh Hyun-nam (Ha Yulli) for dating advice, he followed the advice and confessed to Kwon Seah, "I love you, Seah." Clumsy but sincere, his straightforwardness showcased the charm of novice lover Ki Young-do.
Especially when he was with Kwon Seah, Ki Young-do's bungling charm shone more. He could explain knowledge about horses and bicycles without hesitation, but when the horse moved or he had to ride a bicycle himself he flinched or failed to position the pedals correctly, showing a sloppy side. Unlike his usually flawless genius hacker persona, his particular nervousness in front of Kwon Seah drew laughs.
On the other hand, his genius-hacker side clearly emerged in crisis situations. While surveilling a client's house, when Yoo Bo-na (Kong Hyojin) and Oh Hyun-nam rushed into the scene after discovering a child in danger and unexpected variables arose, Ki Young-do quickly assessed the situation. He immediately deleted CCTV footage to support the operation and carried out his role without wavering even in the sudden circumstances.
Mu Jin-seong expressed Ki Young-do's varying emotions through delicate facial expressions, tone, and reactions. In front of Kwon Seah he conveyed the novice lover's bungling charm with natural reactions that could not hide his excitement, and in the confession scene he conveyed sincerity with a calm tone and deepened gaze. In comic moments he drew laughs with restrained reactions, while in operations he emphasized Ki Young-do's brainy side with a cold expression and composed responses.
Mu Jin-seong's wide acting range continues in the Netflix series Mousetrap. Mousetrap received global attention, ranking fourth in the Netflix worldwide TV shows category on the OTT content ranking site FlixPatrol within a week of its release. In the work Mu Jin-seong played accountant Son Su-hyun, portraying the mysterious aspect hidden behind a calm and reliable exterior. As the threat grew, he delicately depicted the trembling anxiety and fear, heightening the drama's tension.
Thus, Mu Jin-seong continues to vary his acting by embodying characters of different tones in his own colors in each work. While Mousetrap brought a chilling tension, in A Bona fide Killer he shows Ki Young-do's multifaceted side with cold judgment, warm humanity and clumsy excitement. Mu Jin-seong, who is showing new sides across genres and characters, is drawing attention for what kind of acting transformations he will show next.
