Actor Hwang Jung-eum has recently been criticized for just about everything she does. From wearing makeup to a no-bra incident and watching fireworks from home, she has faced consecutive criticism.
On the 5th Hwang Jung-eum released a video capturing the Seoul World Fireworks Festival held that day in Yeouido. That day Hwang Jung-eum enjoyed the fireworks with her two sons at a standalone house in Itaewon with a Han River Police view.
In the video the son excitedly said, "Mom, wow~ take my picture," and Hwang Jung-eum said, "Pretty~ I should show people on SNS," and she shared it through her SNS.
But some netizens saw the post and criticized her, saying, "Are you bragging about an expensive house in Itaewon?" Other celebrities also revealed on SNS that they watched the fireworks from houses with Han River views, but Hwang Jung-eum alone has been singled out for criticism.
In addition, in February Hwang Jung-eum posted on SNS that she was "giving away toys for free," sharing photos of toys her two sons had used, and was criticized. When images showed the toys mixed on the floor, some reacted, saying, "They look like trash," and, "Isn't that inconsiderate?"
However, some netizens who later visited the actual site explained, "It was different from what the articles said," and, "They did not look like trash at all," saying the controversy was overheated.
And three months after that controversy flared, on May 5 Hwang Jung-eum said on her YouTube channel, "I meant to give them away for a good cause, but because I hastily took and posted photos when things weren't organized, it caused a lot of misunderstandings." She added, "Still, people who came in person spoke kindly and used them well, so it ended well."
Last month a heated debate also erupted after she wore bold makeup. In a video released on Hwang Jung-eum's YouTube channel last month titled 'The day I did idol makeup and went to a club with Ayumi,' she mentioned Blackpink's Jennie, saying, "Innocent but like someone else," and embarked on a different transformation.
Hwang Jung-eum asked, "Please do my eye makeup heavily," and glamorous makeup was completed with pink radiance and striking eyes. Hwang Jung-eum, seeming pleased with the finished look, repeatedly took selfies with her phone.
But reactions to the revealed makeup were mixed. While some said the glamorous transformation suited her, others said, "I thought it was old-fashioned makeup on purpose," and, "It's tacky," even adding, "It looks like '90s makeup," expressing regret that it did not bring out Hwang Jung-eum's natural charm.
Not long after, another controversy arose. This time it was a no-bra incident. Some netizens reacted to Hwang Jung-eum's outfit of a gray sleeveless top paired with a white skirt with comments like, "You didn't go to the gathering without a bra, did you?" and, "I was surprised when I first saw her walking (it looked like no bra)."
However, part of the video captured Hwang Jung-eum wearing underwear, and the "no-bra controversy" ended as a minor incident.
Hwang Jung-eum has been continuously criticized, swept up in four controversies and incidents over six months. Some have expressed sympathy at her situation having to endure the waves of criticism.
