A writer known as the 'Peter Pan dad,' Jeon Gyeong-cheol, who raised his son with severe autism alone, has died.
On the 6th, the head of the forum of development disability support specialists posted on social media, "On Sept. 5, 2026, at 7:56 p.m., Jeon Gyeong-cheol, the Peter Pan dad, departed on a long journey. According to his usual wishes, the funeral will be held without a wake," he said.
He continued, "He is currently at the hospital and no separate wake has been set up. We respectfully pray for the deceased's peace," and the post has attracted condolences in the comments.
Jeon Gyeong-cheol, who wrote 'Goodbye, Peter Pan,' had single-handedly raised his 27-year-old son Je-won, who has severe autism and a mental age of 2, for more than 20 years, and while caring for his autistic son and his mother, who suffered from dementia and a stroke, he himself was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer.
Although he was told that without treatment he had about six months left, Jeon Gyeong-cheol refused treatment to find a place for his son to live and spent more than a year searching for his son's home.
On Aug. 12, he appeared on tvN's You Quiz on the Block to make this situation known, and after the broadcast he announced that he had found a home for his son; 24 days after the broadcast the sad news was reported.
