'A Bona fide Killer' Jung Jun-won and Kong Hyojin's identity is revealed to husband Jung Jun-won, putting her in a desperate crisis.
On the 5th, episode 12 of the MBC Friday-Saturday drama A Bona fide Killer (planned by Kwon Seong-chang, written by Kim Eun-hee, directed by Yoon Jong-ho and Kim Ji-hun) portrayed Kwon Tae-seong (played by Jung Jun-won) discovering that his wife Yoo Bo-na (played by Kong Hyojin) is actually Kingfisher, leaving him in confusion.
That episode recorded nationwide household ratings of 9.3% and metropolitan household ratings of 9.2% according to Nielsen Korea, holding the No. 1 spot across all channels in the same time slot. In particular, the ending that alternated scenes of Yoo Bo-na, Kwon Tae-seong and Kwon Yul (played by Hwang Bom-yi) enjoying a happy family trip with a middle-aged man being shot and collapsing in the middle of the city sent tension soaring as the momentary peak rating climbed to 12.6%.
The episode also revealed the past when Yoo Bo-na first set out to punish a criminal. As a child living in an orphanage, Yoo Bo-na confronted the abusive director by shooting a slingshot at him and tore off the director's respirator, who suffered from asthma. Added to this was Mama (played by Moon Jeong-hee) saying "you saved those children," which revealed the background to how Yoo Bo-na came to walk the path of a killer.
The present-day Yoo Bo-na recalled memories of the orphanage and landed blows without hesitation on child abuser Koo Jong-ryeol (played by Park Jung-geun). Watching this, Ki Young-do (played by Moo Jin-seong) discovered Lee Dong-jin (played by Lee Sang Yi) and Beom Seong-hoon (played by Choi Woo-Sung) approaching the scene, hacked into the police computer network and issued false orders. Arriving late at the scene, Lee Dong-jin found Koo Jong-ryeol dead in a car and could not hide his dismay.
At the same time, a shocking truth also came to Kwon Tae-seong. He realized that the voice of the person who had saved him at the Kingfisher shooting scene eight years ago sounded like Yoo Bo-na. As he retraced moments when Yoo Bo-na's and Kingfisher's movements had matched so precisely and fell into confusion, Kwon Tae-seong went to see Sergei (played by Shin Hyun-soo) and pressed him about a kidnapping that occurred four years earlier.
Kwon Tae-seong asked, "Was the person you tried to hide that day Yoo Bo-na?" and ultimately confronted the shocking truth that his wife was Kingfisher. He lamented to Yoo Bo-na, "Why did you marry me? Did you love me?" revealing his conflicted feelings and deepening the poignancy.
Lee Dong-jin also did not let go of his suspicion toward Yoo Bo-na. Searching for Oh Hyun-nam (played by Ha Yul-ri), a past witness to Kingfisher, he saw Yoo Bo-na and Oh Hyun-nam together at Duruumi Electronics and hid. Confirming a car dashcam video from when Yoo Bo-na had chased a voice-phishing suspect deepened his suspicion.
Especially, the three-way confrontation among Yoo Bo-na, Kwon Tae-seong and Lee Dong-jin created taut tension. Lee Dong-jin pointed out that the time when Yoo Bo-na and Kwon Tae-seong first met coincided with Kingfisher's eight-year hiatus, and that Yoo Bo-na's parental leave period also coincided with Kingfisher's four-year hiatus.
Lee Dong-jin also deliberately mentioned that the Koo Jong-ryeol case might be the work of Kingfisher to gauge the two's reactions. Kwon Tae-seong could not hide his unease and engaged in a sharp psychological battle with Lee Dong-jin.
But Kwon Tae-seong's choice was unexpected. He decided to keep Yoo Bo-na's secret. He told Lee Dong-jin that he had seen a male Kingfisher at the Haegong-dong shooting scene four years earlier and had even been kidnapped, steering suspicion away from Yoo Bo-na.
With a determined expression, Kwon Tae-seong vowed, "I will protect my beloved family," and the display of his love for his wife Yoo Bo-na and his will to protect his family heightened the drama's immersion.
At the end of the broadcast, Yoo Bo-na and Kwon Tae-seong were shown having a happy time with their daughter Kwon Yul at an amusement park. But their peace was short-lived, as at the same time a mysterious sniper shooting occurred in the middle of the city. As Yoo Bo-na and Kwon Tae-seong barely escaped the crisis, another threat approached, increasing curiosity about the next episode.
