Singer Lee Sang Soon, who had been absent from his radio DJ duties for more than a week, finally spoke up and said "vagus nerve dysfunction." His agency also released an additional statement.
Earlier, Lee Sang Soon was absent from his DJ seat on MBC FM4U's Perfect day Lee Sang Soon for eight days, and during that time rumors of a health problem, not just simple poor condition, circulated.
On the 25th of last month, the Perfect day side uploaded a post on its official SNS celebrating DJ Lee Sang Soon's birthday. In the released photo, Lee Sang Soon is holding a whipped cream cake and smiling brightly, and fans' congratulatory messages were posted.
However, the next day Thomas Cook opened the show instead of Lee Sang Soon and said, "Sundi will be a little late due to poor condition. Please don't worry too much." In fact, Lee Sang Soon arrived somewhat late but finished the broadcast safely. After that, his consecutive absences lengthened from Aug. 27, and except for a single return on the 29th, he was absent through Sept. 5. In other words, the DJ was away for as many as eight days.
The Perfect day side did not announce a special reason, and agency Antenna also replied that it was "checking," prompting various speculations including a health problem.
Meanwhile, the yoga studio SNS that shows Lee Hyori's whereabouts captured scenes no different from usual. To celebrate the first anniversary of the studio's opening, they posted various gifts and cookies, and the bright faces of Lee Hyori and her students were revealed, attracting attention.
On the afternoon of the 6th, Lee Sang Soon personally came forward and confessed on SNS the reasons he had been absent from the radio.
He said, "Many people have been worried because I haven't been able to host the radio for several days. I apologize to listeners for taking a break from hosting the radio without any explanation," and added, "Last Wednesday I suddenly felt unwell and was unable to host the radio, and since then I have undergone various tests and consultations. I am still waiting for some more detailed tests, but following medical advice that 'vagus nerve dysfunction' is a neurological symptom that requires rest, I have reluctantly been taking a break from the radio and resting."
The "vagus nerve dysfunction" mentioned by Lee Sang Soon became known to the public in the past when HyunA collapsed on stage in 2020 and was diagnosed with 'vasovagal syncope.' TWICE's Chaeyoung, Weki Meki's Kim Doyeon, and actress Kim Jung Nan also reportedly suffered from the same diagnosis.
He continued, "Doctors say that if I get enough rest and take it easy, I can gradually recover, so I will take sufficient time this time to return in more certain health," and added, "Many people have been worried, and I didn't know when I would recover, so I kept thinking, 'If I'm okay tomorrow I'll go back on air,' and that's why this post was delayed," expressing his apology.
Finally, Lee Sang Soon said, "I will use this opportunity to thoroughly check my overall physical condition, fully recover my condition, and return to you in good health," adding, "Please don't worry too much. I will rest well and recover, so please wait a little. See you soon in good shape."
Lee Sang Soon's agency Antenna said, "Lee Sang Soon recently received hospital treatment for a sudden decline in condition, and following medical opinion that 'vagus nerve dysfunction' requires rest, he is currently taking a temporary break from hosting the radio," adding, "The company will actively support the artist so he can focus fully on recovery, and future schedules will be flexibly adjusted based on a comprehensive consideration of the artist's recovery. We will do our best so that Lee Sang Soon can greet fans again in good health."
Given Lee Sang Soon's health problems, it seems inevitable that he will suspend activities for the time being. He is expected to return after recovery following detailed tests, and Perfect day is likely to have temporary DJs such as Thomas Cook fill the seat.
Meanwhile, Lee Hyori and Lee Sang Soon lived in Jeju after marrying in 2013, but moved to Seoul in 2024. They purchased a standalone house in Pyeongchang-dong with a total floor area of about 100 pyeong for around 6 billion won in cash. Lee Hyori opened a yoga studio while continuing broadcast activities, and Lee Sang Soon transformed into a radio DJ to meet listeners.
