Group Blackpink's Lisa spoke frankly about her past love life.
On the 4th (local time), according to U.S. outlet Billboard, Lisa confessed in a scene from her new documentary 'Always Lalisa,' set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), about the constraints K-pop culture places on idols regarding dating.
According to the report, Lisa explained the reason Blackpink members have kept their dating lives strictly private throughout their music activities.
She said, "In K-pop culture we cannot date," noting, "If someone you are seeing is caught by paparazzi, your popularity drops."
She added, "I dated a few times when I was young, but when I dated I had to hide," and said, "I did not want my dating life to harm Blackpink's popularity."
Lisa also explained that the track "Dream" from her solo album Alter Ego was about one of her past secret relationships, and that she sought that person's consent before releasing the song on the condition that fans would not be able to identify the person who inspired the song.
About this, she also said, "People think they figured out who it is, but I don't think so."
Earlier, Lisa and Frédéric Arnault, the second son of French luxury conglomerate LVMH and chief executive of LVMH's watch division, had been the subject of persistent dating rumors since Arnault attended Blackpink's concert in November 2022.
Since then, photos of them together at events such as a brand event in Miami and a drama event in Bangkok, Thailand, drew intense interest from fans around the world, but recent reports have suggested they may have broken up.
Meanwhile, Lisa's new documentary, directed by Sue Kim, will be screened at TIFF on Sept. 11, will open in theaters in October, and will then be exclusively streamed on YouTube Premium.
