'Divorce reflection camp', 'You Quiz on the Block' and other appearances made lawyer Park Min-cheol known, and he explained why he left a major law firm to start his own firm.
Lawyer Park Min-cheol graduated from Seoul National University College of Social Sciences with a bachelor's degree in anthropology and then earned a bachelor's degree in law from Seoul National University School of Law. He also completed a master's course in economic law at Seoul National University Graduate School of Law, passed the 44th judicial examination in 2002 and completed the 34th class at the Judicial Research and Training Institute.
After completing the Judicial Research and Training Institute, Park Min-cheol served as a communications dispute mediation commissioner at the Korea Communications Commission, an administrative appeals commissioner at the Korea Communications Commission, a specialist at the Presidential Committee of Digital Platform Government, a member of the internet address policy review committee at the Ministry of Science and ICT, a member of the artificial intelligence legal reform task force at the Ministry of Science and ICT, a member of the personal information future forum at the Personal Information Protection Commission, a member of the public institution personal information management level diagnosis committee at the Personal Information Protection Commission, vice president of the Personal Information Protection Law Association, vice president of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Law Association, operations director of the Personal Information Experts Association, planning director of the Korea Data Law and Policy Association, audit advisory commissioner at the Korea Communications Commission, specialist at the Media Content Industry Convergence Development Committee, and a subcommittee member of the new industry regulatory innovation committee at the Office for Government Policy Coordination before joining KIM&CHANG where he handled broadcasting · telecommunications, personal information, platform regulation, entertainment and related litigation · advisory work.
In particular, lawyer Park Min-cheol, who became known after appearing on 'Divorce reflection camp' and 'You Quiz on the Block', recently announced his departure from KIM&CHANG on his YouTube channel.
Lawyer Park Min-cheol said, "I am leaving KIM&CHANG. It has been 22 years since I started commuting to Gwanghwamun every morning, and in the year it has been 18 years since I started working at KIM&CHANG, I will no longer be coming here in the morning."
He added, "I have experienced parting many times in my life, but leaving KIM&CHANG is not simply a parting from one person but a farewell to a very large part of my life, so it hits me very, very hard," expressing gratitude to TMT team members, and at a surprise farewell party he briefly choked up and was unable to continue speaking while replying to a junior's remarks.
A junior lawyer said of Park Min-cheol, "At KIM&CHANG there are more than 1,400 Korean lawyers alone, and there has never been and will never be someone like lawyer Park Min-cheol. KIM&CHANG is not a place known for being personable, but when working with lawyer Park Min-cheol it was always enjoyable and he took exceptional care of juniors, so his departure leaves more regret than when other lawyers leave."
Lawyer Park Min-cheol greeted building maintenance staff and cafeteria attendants, and expressed gratitude as he looked at the handkerchief gift given by one attendant and the letters left by juniors.
Walking near Gwanghwamun and briefly lost in memories, lawyer Park Min-cheol said, "Honestly, the thing I will miss most about leaving the company is not commuting to Gwanghwamun," yet he decided to start a private law firm rather than join another law firm. Park said, "The first Iyoo is this: I no longer want to listen to other people's talk; it has become a timing when it is difficult for me to accept doing things according to others' instructions and directives," and "There are inevitably areas in which I cannot control outcomes; no matter how hard I work and what I do, results do not necessarily follow. I think it is important to explain to clients how to understand things that cannot be guaranteed in the relationship."
In particular, lawyer Park Min-cheol also showed anticipation for a changed daily life. He said, "When I open my practice I won't wear a tie. The best thing is not wearing a suit when commuting. Other law offices may have casual Fridays, but KIM&CHANG is the only place that does not allow short sleeves. In summer we still had to dress formally," and "If I did 20 different things in a day, it took an hour to record time (timing is the practice of recording work time in six-minute units). If I start my own firm there will be no need for that."
Still, lawyer Park Min-cheol said, "I will miss not being able to eat at the KIM&CHANG cafeteria. The basement cafeteria is so good. I have such close relationships with the attendants who work there that I also said goodbye to them."
