'Producer Rado returned to the terrestrial stage for the first time in 17 years, bringing back memories of his time active as singer Someday. He revealed that although he had hit songs, he had no choice but to give up singing to make a living.'
On the 4th broadcast of KBS2 'Happy Together,' Rado made a surprise appearance as a participant.
When the next participating team appeared, Yu Jae-seok recognized a familiar face and immediately greeted him warmly, saying, "Isn't that Rado?"
Now familiar as a famous producer, Rado's start was as a singer. Rado debuted in 2009 as the youngest member of the vocal group Someday. He became known especially for singing the KBS2 drama (drama) OST 'Do you know?'
Now in his 17th year since debut, Rado surprisingly revealed that this was his first appearance on a terrestrial variety show, surprising everyone. He joked about the group name Someday, saying, "We picked the wrong name. I didn't think that 'someday' would take 17 years," causing laughter.
The broadcast also revealed footage of Rado's past during his Someday days. Unlike now, his fresh appearance with long hair on stage caught viewers' attention.
At the time, Someday's 'Do you know?' reached number one as background music on mini homepages and climbed as high as sixth on MUSIC BANK, receiving great love. However, it was actually the first time in about 17 years that Rado sang this song on terrestrial television himself. Rado recalled that the only broadcast he appeared on in 2009 was radio. On the day, he even showcased retro fashion that paid homage to his appearance on the then 'visible radio,' reviving memories of that era.
He also confessed the realities hidden behind the glamorous records. Rado said that even though 'Do you know?' reached number one as background music on mini homepages, life was still difficult. He recalled that despite having a hit song, his future looked bleak to the point that he wondered, 'How much more successful would I have to be to live like others?' He had come up from Gwangju holding onto the dream of becoming a singer, but at some point he faced a reality that could not be solved by effort and endurance alone.
In the end, Rado gave up the song that had been most precious to him. He conveyed his feelings at the time, saying, "I realized that there are times when I have to let go of what is precious to me." He recalled that Someday's members going their separate ways was not a decision made out of blaming someone. Rado said the disbandment was a 'choice to survive,' and, speaking in that vein, said, "It wasn't a situation where we could blame anyone. We really had to live," and became choked up.
After giving up the dream of being a singer, Rado later forged a new path as a composer and producer. And 17 years after his debut, he returned to the terrestrial stage and added extra meaning by singing 'Do you know?,' which was like his starting point.
