Actor Kwak Si-yang and Lovelyz member Yoo Jiae are drawing attention with a surprise marriage announcement without prior dating rumors. Meanwhile, a past video in which Yoo Jiae had already named Kwak Si-yang as her "favorite" and expressed affection has been reexamined, drawing 'pilgrimage' visits
On the 3rd, Kwak Si-yang's agency 9ato Entertainment and Yoo Jiae's agency KPLUS announced the couple's marriage in an official statement. The agencies said, "Actor Kwak Si-yang is scheduled to hold a wedding with singer and actor Yoo Jiae in November," and added, "After about a year of dating, they have grown their love for each other and, based on deep trust and love, have promised a future together."
Kwak Si-yang, born in 1987, and Yoo Jiae, born in 1993, are six years apart. They became acquainted naturally by going to the same hair salon and later grew closer while supporting the professional baseball team Doosan Bears. They quietly nurtured their relationship for about a year before tying the knot. The wedding date is reported to be Nov. 28, but the agencies said, "The ceremony will be held privately with family members from both sides, relatives and close acquaintances in attendance. Out of respect for both families' wishes, we ask for your understanding that specific details cannot be disclosed," and declined to elaborate.
When news of the couple's marriage broke, the public was astonished. There had been no dating signals and there seemed to be no obvious connections between Kwak Si-yang and Yoo Jiae. However, about two years ago, a remark in which Yoo Jiae publicly mentioned Kwak Si-yang was spotted, drawing attention.
Earlier, Yoo Jiae appeared on SBS PowerFM's Bae Seong-jae's Ten, which aired in Nov. 2024, and revealed her "favorite" actor. She named Gang Dong-won as her favorite actor from childhood and said, "My favorite actor has changed recently. Senior Kwak Si-yang and senior Yeon Woo-jin." Bae Seong-jae responded, "I hope it works out," cheering her on and adding, "as a fan," and Yoo Jiae laughed, saying, "Please speak sincerely."
Notably, on Jee Seokjin's YouTube channel Jipyeonhan Sesang around the same time, Yoo Jiae was asked, "Don't you have a boyfriend?" and replied, "I haven't been seeing anyone for a while. If there's a good person, please introduce them to me." Asked about Jee Seokjin's specific ideal type, she said, "Height about 176cm or taller. Not too tall. Facial features of a kind person. I like a gentle tofu-like face. But with slightly rolling pupils. Sparkling. An annual income enough to eat what you want and go where you want. I don't want someone rich. I hope they can do what they want and have no debt. I hope the personality isn't too harsh. I hope people say, 'what a nice person' about them," she answered.
That description of an ideal type also surprised people because of its high similarity to Kwak Si-yang. Coincidentally, Kwak Si-yang appeared on MBC's Radio Star in January last year and said, "I want to get married soon. That's how I feel," and revealed, "Only now have I paid off the debts that were at home." He also shared his concern that, because he paid off debts, he didn't have money to get married and said, "I'm the youngest child, and my parents are in poor health. Hospital bills cost more than expected," he said, expressing his worries.
He also said, "I want to show that I live happily," and described his ideal type: "I'm not very good at leading. I like listening to my partner and being led," adding that he would like to "go watch baseball," showing his fan side. He also expressed a desire to "definitely go on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage after getting married." Many people are congratulating the two for finding each other's ideal types.
After the marriage announcement, Yoo Jiae and Kwak Si-yang personally greeted fans through handwritten letters. Yoo Jiae said, "Someone who cherishes and relies on each other and wants to spend future time together has appeared, and with good intentions we promised a new beginning," and Kwak Si-yang said, "A precious connection has appeared with whom I want to spend my life. Based on mutual trust and love, we promised to walk through life together.
