Veteran comedian Bae Yeong-man for the first time opened up about the heartbreaking family history that has left him living alone for 20 years. After suddenly losing his young daughter, the whole family suffered deep wounds, and he confessed that even the marital relationship eventually collapsed.
On the 3rd broadcast MBN 'Exclusive World' revealed Bae Yeong-man's current condition living alone.
That day Bae Yeong-man took out the old photos he had kept at home one by one. Standing before photos showing his children when they were young, he fell into memories for a while and said he felt especially sorry toward his children. He said the fact that he, as a father, could not keep the family together until the end had remained a burden on his heart for many years. Bae Yeong-man confessed that because of this he had lived for the past 20 years feeling as if he had sinned against his children.
A major change came to his family when they suddenly lost their young daughter. One day Bae Yeong-man received a call that his wife had collapsed and rushed to the emergency room, where he heard an unbelievable piece of news. The young daughter, whom they had seen smiling just that morning, had passed away.
The grief left by the sudden parting was too great for the couple to bear. Bae Yeong-man recalled that after that event their conflicts deepened and both went through such difficult times that it became hard to maintain a normal family life.
Ultimately the couple went their separate ways. Looking back, Bae Yeong-man said that after his daughter's death "the household was shattered," meaning the entire family could not recover from the shock. It has already been 20 years since the divorce and living alone. Bae Yeong-man calmly said he has now become accustomed to cooking and eating doenjang-jjigae by himself. His children are also living their own lives. He said his daughter married three years ago and the youngest is living in a company dormitory.
He did not hide the regrettable relationship with his eldest son. Bae Yeong-man said his son left home after a big fight in childhood, noting that children do not always do as their parents wish, and reflected that his own father must have worried a great deal raising him.
Although he made people laugh on stage for many years, Bae Yeong-man has lived with the remorse that he could not protect his family when he returned home. The family photos he brought out after 20 years contained the longing of many years that he had not been able to speak about easily.
