"The Wonder Coach" announced double good news ahead of season 2's release.
The MBC series "The Wonder Coach" (directed by Kwon Rak-hee, Choi Yoon-young, Lee Jae-woo), which first aired last September, is a club founding project led by volleyball legend Kim Yeon-koung returning as a rookie coach, highlighting Kim Yeon-koung's leadership and the passion and determination of underdog players while depicting the growth of the "Wonder Dogs."
"The Wonder Coach," which concluded to critical acclaim, is set to release season 2 in October and won the entertainment variety TV category grand prize and the writer's award at the 53rd Korea Broadcasting Awards on the 3rd.
Kwon Rak-hee, the producer who took the stage on behalf of "The Wonder Coach," expressed gratitude, saying, "Volleyball is a sport where someone has to receive and set the ball for a point to be scored, so I was able to receive this award thanks to the many staff and Korea Volleyball Association officials who lifted the ball as one team."
He added, "We prepared season 2 while tightly containing our true feelings, to the extent that Coach Kim Yeon-koung said, 'I'm worried we showed too raw a side,' so we will return in October with a fun and impressive appearance," raising expectations for season 2.
Song Hyun-min, who won the writer's award, said, "I worried a lot about whether a volleyball variety show could gain people's empathy, so I am grateful for the great interest and this meaningful award. I thank producers Kwon Rak-hee and Choi Yoon-young for proposing the story of a world-class player moving forward as a 'wonder' together with underdog players."
He added, "Above all, writers constantly observe and record from the closest place to the cast and work harder than anyone to find stories within that and restructure them anew. I want to tell my fellow writers that I am grateful and that they worked hard," he said, expressing his sentiments.
Additionally, Yuhan Sang, who handled the sound for "The Wonder Coach," added significance by winning the individual award in the sound effects category.
Meanwhile, MBC's "The Wonder Coach" season 2, which follows Kim Yeon-koung's challenge as a coach who moved from rookie to veteran, will air in October.
