British veteran actor Tim Curry, known to film fans worldwide for the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Home Alone, who died at the age of 80, has had his specific cause of death revealed.
According to Page Six's report on the 2nd (local time), the final cause of death for Tim Curry, who died on Aug. 25, was confirmed as coronary artery disease. According to documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, a history of stroke and kidney cancer were also listed as major underlying conditions that contributed to his death.
Earlier, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said it responded to a report of an 80-year-old man's death at about 11:23 p.m. on Aug. 25 and completed a related investigation.
Tim Curry had struggled with health problems for a long time after suffering a sudden stroke in 2012 while receiving a massage. He underwent surgery to remove a blood clot in the brain at the time and faced a life-or-death battle as he experienced paralysis on his left side and speech impairment. After relentless effort he regained his speech, but he was ultimately unable to walk and relied on a powered wheelchair for the rest of his life.
In an interview with The New York Times last year, he said, "I nearly died during the surgery," and recalled his anguish at the time of the stroke: "My father also died after a stroke from pneumonia, so losing my voice was my greatest fear. The process of finding my voice again was very difficult."
Also, at the Rocky Horror Picture Show's 50th anniversary screening last September, he attended and, with his characteristic wit, described his condition by saying, "I still can't walk, so I'm sitting in this stupid chair," which became the last official public memory for fans.
News of Tim Curry's passing has prompted waves of mourning from fellow stars such as Susan Sarandon and Carol Burnett and from film fans around the world.
