Actor Kate Beckinsale, best known for the film 'Pearl Harbor,' shared a heartbreaking message about getting through PTSD.
On the 2nd (local time), Kate Beckinsale said in a video she posted on social media, "People who have witnessed or experienced fear, terror or extreme levels of violence cannot escape the trauma they suffered, but we must recognize them as heroes."
Beckinsale added, "Many people become astonishingly good at hiding such situations. But that is a sad thing. Because they hide it so well, they receive no consideration."
Having lost her mother and stepfather over the past two and a half years, Beckinsale explained that people with PTSD continue daily life yet "cannot sleep for more than an hour because when they fall asleep it is full of nightmares."
She said, "Anything — a smell, a sound, a thought, an emotion — can actually drive them to a place like hell," stressing about fighting PTSD that "because it is invisible, people should be kinder and more gentle to others."
She went on to say, "If you have not worn someone's shoes and walked a mile in them, no matter how nice those shoes may seem, you really know nothing about what that person carries day and night, what they hide or what they are fighting."
Beckinsale also repeatedly emphasized that people with PTSD are "the loneliest people," saying, "They keep trying to put one foot in front of the other."
In a second video, Beckinsale said, "There are people who silently provide care, watching a loved one weaken in a horrible and frightening way without the medical qualifications or expertise to cope; they do that work alone. In doing so, they can break," and she urged, "Try to be someone who can provide safety."
Beckinsale revealed that after losing her stepfather Roy Battersby in 2024, her mother, actress Judi Ro, died in her arms in July last year, and she has been openly discussing her grief. At the time Beckinsale said, "I feel like I am paralyzed," describing her mother as "the compass of my life, the love of my life and my dearest friend." Beckinsale was recently photographed looking very thin, raising concern.
