The bereaved family of the Busan officetel fall victim alleged that the perpetrator's sister is appearing in a KBS drama.
On the 3rd, a petition titled "I am a bereaved family member of the Busan officetel fall victim" was posted on the KBS viewer petition board.
The bereaved family said, "We unjustly lost our beloved daughter. Our daughter was tormented and tormented by the perpetrator's vicious stalking and ultimately met an unjust death," and said, "Since that day my time has stopped, but the world feels so indifferent and cruel."
They continued, "The perpetrator's sister is now appearing in a prominent role in a KBS evening daily drama, acting without concern as a drama actor who smiles and cries on TV screens and receives much love from many people," adding, "Our family died unjustly, but the perpetrator's family's daughter is thriving as an actress. How can the world be so unfair?"
The bereaved family said, "On one side, parents who lost their beloved daughter collapse daily, but on the other side daily life continues as if nothing happened, and that reality is unbearably painful," and asked KBS to state whether it was unaware of this fact and requested responsible action as a public broadcaster.
As of 5 p.m. on the 3rd, the petition had 534 endorsements. KBS viewer petitions require 1,000 endorsements within 30 days from the day the petition is posted for KBS to respond within 30 days.
The Busan officetel fall was an incident in January 2024 in which a woman in her 20s, identified as B, fell and died while arguing with her ex-boyfriend A at an officetel in Jin Goo, Busan. Initially A told police that the victim fell after he left the house, but the investigation revealed he had repeatedly assaulted and stalked the victim.
A was prosecuted on charges including special intimidation, property damage, refusal to vacate, and violation of the anti-stalking law. The first trial sentenced him to three years and six months in prison and ordered 40 hours of a stalking treatment program, but the appellate court reduced the sentence to three years and two months.
