Group (G)I-DLE member Shuhua will walk the red carpet at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) for her first leading role in a film. Beyond being a global K-pop star, she is taking to the screen.
Shuhua's film debut and first leading role, "Happily Ever After," has been officially invited to the 31st Busan International Film Festival's "A Window on Asian Cinema" section, held Oct. 6–15. It will make its Asian premiere and greet domestic audiences for the first time.
Particularly notable is that BIFF has been selected as an A-list festival alongside Cannes, Berlin and Venice, making the invitation of Shuhua's screen debut all the more meaningful. Following the 51st Toronto International Film Festival and BIFF, she has consecutively appeared at major international film festivals, cementing her status as an actor.
Shuhua said, "I didn't expect to be part of such a major film festival with my first project. It's a familiar yet strange experience," and added, "I'm grateful that the director and production team trusted me. It feels like a dream to stand on stages at film festivals around the world."
"Happily Ever After" deals with the everyday fractures that occur when a stray cat suddenly appears in the lives of two sisters with completely opposite personalities. Renowned Greater China master Feng Yi Piao Na Lon, a Golden Horse award winner, directed the film.
In the film, Shuhua plays the family's innocent youngest sister, Lin Ziqi, portraying the multilayered emotional shifts in how she views life with dense, nuanced acting.
Meanwhile, "Happily Ever After" is scheduled for theatrical release in 2027.
