Two coincidental pieces of news arrived on the same day regarding the sequel to 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on call'. Ha-young, who played Cheon Jang-mi in season 1, has left the sequel, and the original author, physician and writer Lee Nak-jun, was honored with an appointment as a visiting professor at his alma mater's college of medicine.
Lee Nak-jun announced the news himself on his social media on the 1st, saying, "I have been appointed visiting professor in the department of medicine at my alma mater, Inha University College of Medicine."
Having returned to his alma mater more than 15 years after graduating from medical school and meeting his juniors, Lee Nak-jun also expressed humble sentiments. He said he did not know what help he could provide to his juniors but, following the guidance of his seniors and mentors among the professors, he would do his best and expressed his gratitude.
He added his characteristic humor to a previously shared graduation photo. Looking at his own image, Lee Nak-jun self-deprecatingly called it "a strangely infuriating face," drawing laughter.
There is also good news for Lee Nak-jun related to his primary work. The Netflix series 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on call', based on the web novel he wrote, has entered preparations for a sequel thanks to the popularity of season 1. Lee Nak-jun recently appeared on KBS' Malja Show and said preproduction is finished, they are scouting filming locations, and filming is expected to begin around October.
However, not every face from season 1 will return for the sequel. Coincidentally, Netflix officially announced that Ha-young, who played nurse Cheon Jang-mi in season 1, will not appear in the sequel.
Ha-young had been embroiled in controversy after allegations arose concerning her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions. Netflix said it had decided she would not appear "out of respect for the actor's position." However, it did not explicitly state the controversy as the direct reason for her departure.
On the same day, on one side came the news of a season 1 actor's departure, and on the other came the news of the original author's appointment as a visiting professor at his alma mater. With the sequel to 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on call' moving toward full production, Lee Nak-jun has expanded his activities from writer to the university lectern.
