Neuroscientist Jang Dong-seon appeared on MBC's "Playlist109," which aired on the 1st.
That day, when asked when the hard moments were, he said, "When I was young I was in Germany and then came to Korea. While we were in Germany, my parents sent money to a friend for living expenses after returning to Korea. But the friend didn't come to the airport."
Jang Dong-seon added, "It turned out that over 20 years he spent all the money we sent and emigrated to Australia. At the time my father was in his mid-40s. My father worked at a German factory and my mother worked as a nurse. It was money saved for over 20 years."
Jang Dong-seon shared the heartbreaking story: "We endured in a basement dwelling in a poor neighborhood, then stayed at my grandfather's house and at my uncle's house. When we had finally saved enough to rent a jeonse place, my father made a bad guarantor decision and lost it. At that time my mother said, 'Life is meaningless.' She took medicine and once set the house on fire."
He tearfully recounted, "Sometimes my mother couldn't remember things. I left home for two weeks at a time and lived with homeless people. I lived as a runaway youth for two years. Not long after, my mother passed away. I cared for her for about a year. My mother, who wasn't conscious, suddenly became lucid and said, 'What did I do to you? I love you. Will you forgive me? I'm so sorry. I love you.'"
Jang Dong-seon added that meeting his current wife allowed him to gradually overcome the trauma from his original family.
