Lee Jin-ho, who was indicted on habitual gambling and drunk driving charges, will receive a first-instance sentence today (1st).
On the 1st in the morning, the criminal division 1 of the Yeoju branch of Suwon District Court (Presiding Judge Director General An Tae-yun) will hold the sentencing hearing for Lee Jin-ho, who was prosecuted without detention on charges of habitual gambling and drunk driving.
Lee Jin-ho was referred to trial on charges of gambling 664 times using illegal gambling sites from May 10, 2023, to Oct. 14, 2024.
Prosecutors said Lee Jin-ho transferred more than 800 million won to illegal gambling sites and converted it into cyber money to engage in habitual gambling. They also allege Lee drove about 70 km last September while intoxicated.
Having previously collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage, Lee Jin-ho attended the sentencing preparation hearing on the 14th of last month using a cane. He admitted all charges and in his final statement said, "I committed wrongdoings and have lived each day filled with regret without peace of mind. I will never commit such crimes again."
Meanwhile, prosecutors sought a two-year prison term for Lee Jin-ho.
