'The oldest active actress' Kim Young-ok expressed a heavy heart while mentioning her husband who died three months ago.
On Tuesday the 1st at 10:40 p.m., SBS's Dongsaingmong Season 2 – You Are My Destiny (hereafter Dongsaingmong 2) will air, revealing the daily life of Lee Jang-won and Bae Da-hae and honest stories from special guest Kim Young-ok.
At a recent SBS Dongsaingmong 2 studio recording, the oldest active actress Kim Young-ok sat in the studio and displayed an overwhelming presence from the start. Actively engaged, including showing off 'ultimate MZ power' on her personal YouTube channel, Kim Young-ok drew attention by revealing an unusual connection with Kim Gu Ra. Kim Gu Ra said, "I plan to contribute to my daughter's college tuition," recounting the heartwarming story of Kim Young-ok making a generous gift for her late-in-life daughter.
The warmth lasted only briefly as Kim Gu Ra, reminiscing about Kim Young-ok's warm kindness, made a decisive slip of the tongue and ended with him clasping his hands together in a contrite apology. The episode provokes curiosity about what incident made the notorious Kim Gu Ra break into a sweat. Also, as Kim Young-ok watched the daily life of Lee Jang-won and Bae Da-hae, her characteristically spicy wit and deep empathy kept the set laughing, and the couple's routine that made Kim Young-ok so engrossed will be revealed on the broadcast.
Meanwhile, Kim Young-ok opened up on television for the first time about the tender feelings of having sent off her husband, the late Kim Young-gil, who had been by her side for a long time in May.
After a long battle with illness, having lost a partner she had been with for 67 years, Kim Young-ok said, "I still can't do it," conveying a heavy longing that made the studio solemn. But she soon expressed gratitude that she has been encouraged by the solid comfort of fellow senior actors who had faced widowhood earlier, such as Ban Hyo-jung, Sa Mi-ja and Baek Soo-ryun. In particular, she pleasantly recounted the anecdote of being told, in response to her use of the term "widow," "At this age you're not a widow, you're just a solitary elderly person," which brought both emotion and laughter.
Meanwhile, Kim Young-ok suffered the unfortunate loss of her husband in May this year. Kim Young-gil, Kim Young-ok's husband, is reported to have died of a chronic illness. He was 89.
The deceased served as an announcer at KBS during his lifetime, receiving much affection for his steady hosting and dignified image. He met his wife Kim Young-ok through activities in the Chung-Ang University broadcasting club, later married in 1960 and over the years built a long-lasting harmonious family with one son and two daughters.
