The Odyssey 2026 surpassed 9 million admissions 27 days after its release, marking one of the biggest box office runs since Avatar: The Way of Water.
The Odyssey 2026, which reached 8 million viewers in 24 days after release — the fastest this year — and became the top-grossing foreign film of 2026, continued its unstoppable run by surpassing 9 million viewers on its 27th day.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, The Odyssey 2026 exceeded 9 million cumulative admissions as of 6:03 p.m. on Aug. 31. In particular, The Odyssey 2026 became the second foreign film since the pandemic to surpass 9 million viewers domestically, following Avatar: The Way of Water, proving its extraordinary box office strength. Moreover, it surpassed the final scores of the top-grossing foreign films of the past three years — 2023's Elemental (7.24 million), 2024's Inside Out 2 (8.79 million), and 2025's Zootopia 2 (8.61 million) — becoming the highest-grossing foreign release in Korea over the past three years.
What is even more remarkable is that it reached the 9 million milestone in just 27 days, less than a month after release. That is three days faster than Avatar: The Way of Water (30 days after release), underscoring once again the film's seemingly unstoppable box office momentum.
The Odyssey 2026's box office heat shows no sign of cooling even in its fifth week. It has held the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office for four consecutive weeks and has firmly maintained the top overall reservation rate despite the successive releases of various domestic and international titles, sustaining a long run. Above all, even as the film nears its one-month mark, it continues to show strong presence in both box office and reservation rates, drawing increased attention to its future performance.
Having written new box office records day after day and finally surpassing 9 million viewers, The Odyssey 2026 is drawing attention as it could become another Christopher Nolan film to reach 10 million, following Interstellar, and set a new box office milestone.
Meanwhile, as scalping surged at the Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX theater for The Odyssey 2026 just short of 10 million admissions, CGV ultimately took action.
Recently, CGV announced on its official website an "announcement of a temporary adjustment to the number of IMAX tickets available for reservation at Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX," saying, "Due to the surge in IMAX reservation demand and to provide more customers with reservation opportunities and operate a stable reservation environment, we will temporarily adjust the number of IMAX tickets available for reservation at Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX as follows."
According to the notice, since the 27th of last month CGV has limited IMAX screenings at the Yongsan I'Park Mall IMAX theater to a maximum of four tickets per transaction and four tickets per day.<
