Actor Yoo Hai Jin will take on the occult genre again following the film Exhuma (2024). The next project is the film "Modup."
Distributor SHOWBOX said on the 1st that Yoo Hai Jin, Yim Siwan, Kim So Hyun and Lee Moo Saeng will star in the occult mystery film "Modup," which will begin filming this month.
Set in the 1960s on a remote island long abandoned by people, "Modup" tells the story of people entangled like an unresolved knot. The title "Modup" is a Jeolla Province dialect word meaning "knot."
Yoo Hai Jin plays "Lee Do," the head of a seaside village. As someone who protects the village and keeps watch over the remote island, Lee leads the heart of the story.
Yim Siwan takes on the role of Lee Do's son "Sang-gun," showcasing a father-and-son performance with Yoo Hai Jin. Sang-gun is someone who plunges ahead without looking back once he sets his mind on something, and he heads to the remote island at Seon-ok's request.
Kim So Hyun plays "Seon-ok," who heads to the remote island to treat an illness of unknown cause. Lee Moo Saeng, who appeared in the series The Glory (2022) and The World of the Married (2020), has been cast as Seon-ok's father, "Gu-taek."
"Modup" is the feature debut of director Park Jong-hyun, who served on directing teams for films such as A Normal Family (2024) and "Broker" (2022). Director Kang Yoon-sung, who directed The Outlaws (2017), also joined the production.
Yoo Hai Jin said, "We are starting to film together in the cooler month of September," adding, "I hope we can finish filming safely and well, and we will do our best to create a good film."
Director Park Jong-hyun noted, "I'm thrilled and excited at the thought of making my first film with excellent actors and a reliable staff," and added, "Above all, I hope everyone can finish filming safely and without incident."
