Lee Gyu-hyung will present "Boy's Diary" as his next project after Mousetrap.
Actor Lee Gyu-hyung has confirmed his appearance in the film Boy's Diary.
The film Boy's Diary, which opens in the second half of next year (director Jeong Han-jin), is a human drama about juvenile detention teacher Jimin and 17-year-old detainee Kang-jun meeting through a "diary" and the story that unfolds. Lee Gyu-hyung plays the contract teacher "Jimin." Through Jimin, who became a juvenile detention teacher amid a life crisis, the film will delicately portray the complex emotional amplitude. Actor Yoon Jae-chan plays Kang-jun and works alongside Lee Gyu-hyung, and other cast members include Heo Dong-won, Kim Ye-eun, Park Eun Seok, and Chae Su-ha.
Boy's Diary won the Jeonju Film Studio Award and the SM Entertainment Award at the 17th Jeonju Project. Selected in 2026 as an independent art film production support project by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the film is directed by Jeong Han-jin, who won the Korean Short Film Competition Grand Prize at the 14th Jeonju International Film Festival and the Ttaenggeulang Coin Award at the 15th Jeongdongjin Independent Film Festival for the short film "How to eat well and live well."
Lee Gyu-hyung has demonstrated a wide acting spectrum with passionate performances across genres in films such as Boss, Handsome Guys, Noryang: Deadly Sea and dramas such as Uncle SamSik, Voice season 4, Hi Bye Mama, Prison Playbook, and Stranger. Established as a trusted actor who completes characters in his own colors from protagonists to antagonists, Lee Gyu-hyung plays the detective "Sun-yong" in the recently released Netflix series Mousetrap, a role in which he begins investigating after receiving a mysterious tip, captivating viewers worldwide with his dense performance.
Having created varied characters in each work, expectations are rising about what new face Lee Gyu-hyung will show in Boy's Diary. He said of joining the project, "I want to convey to the audience the numbness and warm resonance I felt when I first read the script." Expectations were raised for the deep resonance that will be delivered by the adult Jimin standing on the edge and the process in which he changes after meeting Kang-jun as portrayed by Lee Gyu-hyung.
Meanwhile, Lee Gyu-hyung recently appeared in the new Netflix release Mousetrap. The tracking thriller depicts the story of novelist Moon-jae, who had his name, face and life completely stolen by the mysterious being Mousetrap; loan shark No-ja, who tries to recover lost money; and detective Sun-yong, who chase the identity of Mousetrap. For the role of Sun-yong, Lee Gyu-hyung had to lose a significant amount of weight for the character and confessed that he lost weight with the help of Wegovy and Mounjaro.
