Actor Ha-young is voluntarily leaving the new season of The Trauma Code: Heroes on call.
On the 1st, Netflix told OSEN, "Respecting the actor's position, Ha-young will not appear in the sequel to The Trauma Code: Heroes on call."
However, since filming is reportedly scheduled for October, when asked about replacement actors or shooting schedules, they cautiously said, "We are unable to confirm casting or production schedules beyond this."
The Netflix original series The Trauma Code: Heroes on call, based on the web novel of the same name, is a work that tells the thrilling story of genius surgeon Baek Gang-hyeok (Ju Jihoon) — who once roamed battlefields — taking a post to revive a nominal severe trauma team. After season 1 was released in January last year and received great love, preparations are underway to produce season 2 and season 3.
But Ha-young, who played Cheon Jang-mi in the series, was hit with a controversy last month over being a descendant of pro-Japanese collaborators, and her activities were abruptly halted. At the time Ha-young boasted on several broadcasts that she was from a "fourth-generation medical family," saying her great-grandfather, grandfather, father and older sister all worked in medicine, and later it was revealed that Ha-young's great-grandfather was Ahn Sang-ho, who had pro-Japanese actions, dealing a blow.
At first the agency dismissed it as "groundless," but when various pieces of evidence pointing to Ahn Sang-ho's pro-Japanese actions surfaced, they issued an additional statement: "Upon further verification, we confirmed records showing that great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho's name actually appears on the 1916 Daijeongchinmocheui council member list. We sincerely apologize for hastily responding 'groundless' without sufficient verification and causing confusion. Ha-young also deeply reflects on causing concern through this matter and will approach future matters with more caution and humility," they said, apologizing.
Ha-young posted a handwritten apology, saying, "Through the process of directly searching related materials prompted by this incident, I learned of my great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions. I reflect on having lightly mentioned my family history without properly understanding the painful time Korea endured under Japanese colonial rule," and added, "I do not think that not knowing can be a reason to ignore or take that history lightly. I accept that wrongdoing gravely and, as a descendant, sincerely apologize. I will carefully examine my family's history and that era and adopt a more cautious attitude toward history going forward. I will also do my best to study our history deeply and to serve with respect toward independence activists and all those who worked for Korea's liberation and peace."
Despite Ha-young's apology, the public strongly protested that she should be removed from the new season of The Trauma Code: Heroes on call and from the SBS drama The Long Shot Trial. In response, The Long Shot Trial side said, "Under internal discussion," withholding comment, and The Trauma Code: Heroes on call side also said, "Sequel production is still at the discussion stage, so we are unable to confirm filming start dates or casting," they said.
Meanwhile, OSEN confirmed that Ha-young had been scheduled to appear without withdrawal through season 2 and season 3 of The Trauma Code: Heroes on call, but ultimately left at her own request.
