Actor Shin Mina's more than 15 years of donations are drawing attention online.
On the 1st, a post titled "37 billion won that quietly left Shin Mina's bank account over 15 years" spread across online communities and social networking services (SNS).
The post included a comment from a foundation official who said they had observed Shin Mina's donations. The official said, "At first, I thought it was a mistaken deposit," adding, "Since 2009, a large sum has come in every month, and it turned out to be Ms. Shin Mina."
The post went on to say that Shin Mina asked that her donations not be publicized and conveyed her intention that the funds be used for treatment costs for burn patients and support for children from low-income families, and that the amount she donated in this way exceeded 3.7 billion won over 15 years. However, it was not confirmed which institution the foundation official who made the remarks belonged to or the exact source of the comments.
It has been reported multiple times that Shin Mina has continued long-term philanthropic work. Since 2009, she has consistently donated to vulnerable groups, and in December last year, ahead of her marriage, she and her husband, Kim Woo-bin, gave a total of 300 million won to the Hallym Burn Foundation, Asan Medical Center, and Good Neighbors. Her cumulative known donations are said to total about 4 billion won.
Shin Mina has previously addressed why she did not actively publicize her donations, saying, "I thought good deeds should be done in secret," while also noting, "I came to think that the giving of an influential person can lead others to join in."
