Joo Sang-Wook opened up about various topics, from appearing alongside his wife Cha Ye-ryun in a drama to his recently newly achieved career-defining work "Manager Kim."
Joo Sang-Wook said in a recent BoldPage interview that when asked whether he felt more popular after "Manager Kim," "People I always saw suddenly started recognizing me," adding, "I used to hear 'I enjoyed Giant' a lot, but this time that changed to 'I enjoyed Manager Kim.'"
He added, "I should keep creating career-defining works, but right now it's 'Manager Kim'," and said, "It's not easy for people to remember even the character's name." Reacting to people remembering the name 'Joo Gang-chan,' he joked, "Maybe I should just change my name to Joo Gang-chan. My family name would still be Joo," drawing laughter.
He also revealed behind-the-scenes stories from action scenes with So Jisub. Joo Sang-Wook said, "Action is more about the combination of the two actors than about hits and strikes," and said So Jisub offered a lot of help during filming.
Recalling the daylong action shoot, he said, "I don't think I'll ever forget that 'day of getting hit,'" adding that some action had to be omitted due to lack of filming time and "If we had time, we'd have eaten a late-night snack and taken more hits." On the possibility of appearing in another project with his wife Cha Ye-ryun, he answered, "The condition would be that we don't meet each other during filming," then revealed an unexpected reason, saying, "Not for any other reason, I'm just too embarrassed to do it," which made the set erupt in laughter.
He also shared a real-life "daughter-obsessed" episode with his 9-year-old daughter. Joo Sang-Wook said, "In real life I almost live for my daughter," and right after explaining the meaning of "daughter-obsessed" to his daughter, he immediately heard, "Dad, please bring me some water."
He also candidly discussed his feelings about his acting career. He said, "In my 30s I felt anxious if I didn't film even for a day," but added, "Now I feel at ease. I think I can do even more works going forward."
Meanwhile, Joo Sang-Wook gave a strong performance as the villain Joo Gang-chan in "Manager Kim," which ended last month. "Manager Kim" enjoyed sensational popularity, recording a peak viewership rating of 23.1% (Nielsen Korea national), and season 2 is currently in production.<
