Comedian Lee Kyung-sil compared her dating values with her daughter Son Su-a and was culturally shocked by an unexpected generational gap.
On the 31st, the YouTube channel "Our mom Lee Kyung-sil" released a video titled "Reality mother and daughter choose one of two balance games (feat. MZ dessert)." That day, Lee Kyung-sil and Son Su-a played a balance game facing awkward choices related to dating.
It was not easy from the start. When they had to choose between "a 2 Days & 1 Night trip with a female friend" and "an all-night drinking session with an ex-girlfriend," Lee Kyung-sil recoiled, saying, "Just thinking about it makes me angry." At first she preferred the drinking session, saying "it's better to settle everything," but when Son Su-a said "a female friend is better than an ex-girlfriend," Lee Kyung-sil ultimately changed her mind in favor of the female friend.
When Son Su-a said she would "feel bad either way," Lee Kyung-sil even complained about the balance game itself, saying, "Why did you gather only the bad options? It's annoying," which drew laughter.
But the mother and daughter's opinions really diverged on the question of which is harder to forgive between "an emotional affair" and "a physical affair."
Lee Kyung-sil said she found a physical affair harder to accept. She said emotional feelings leave room for her to try to mend the relationship, but if it progressed to a physical relationship, she would consider it "the end." Ultimately, she said that if the heart moves, behavior can follow, so the two are not completely separate issues.
By contrast, Son Su-a's view was the opposite. She said a physical act might be a momentary mistake, but an emotional affair means the person already has feelings of love for someone else and is "something I cannot control." Therefore, she said it would be harder to endure a situation where the heart has already left.
After hearing her daughter's explanation, Lee Kyung-sil, surprised by a standard so different from her own, reacted, "Completely different. Young people these days think differently." Even on the same issue of an "affair," the reality mother and daughter's differing views on what to take more seriously made the generational gap palpable.<
