Actor Choi Hyun-wook is once again embroiled in controversy after an early morning drunken live broadcast, and his recent appearance alongside Kim Taeri on a variety show is also drawing attention.
Choi Hyun-wook conducted a live broadcast on his social media on the morning of the 30th. With fans from both Korea and abroad tuning in, he continued the broadcast holding a glass and repeatedly mentioned that he was drunk.
When fans showed worried reactions, Choi Hyun-wook said, "Koreans are sleeping now. There's no one awake at 7:28. I am drunk." He continued interacting with fans, saying, "At this hour there's no one to stop me, and I'm so happy."
However, because Choi Hyun-wook has previously been criticized for incidents such as illegally discarding cigarette butts, SNS exposure mishaps and controversy over his attitude during a ceremonial pitch, views on this drunken broadcast are divided.
In particular, his recent interview about Netflix's Notes from the Last Row last month, in which he reportedly expressed remorse over past controversies, was recalled. At the time Choi Hyun-wook said, "I have reflected a lot," and said he was trying to mature as a person and take on more responsibility. He also expressed a desire to give viewers immersion through his future works.
Earlier this year Choi Hyun-wook appeared as Kim Taeri's assistant teacher on tvN's Curtain Up, Class, drawing attention. Especially at a meal when Kim Taeri was seriously considering the next lesson, Choi Hyun-wook's focus on the samgyeopsal in front of him provoked laughter.
At the time Kim Taeri asked Choi Hyun-wook, "When I just said that, what were you thinking?" and Choi Hyun-wook honestly replied, "The samgyeopsal looks delicious." When Kim Taeri pointed out that as an assistant teacher he needed to be more thoughtful, saying, "On that point you've turned it off," Choi Hyun-wook ultimately admitted, "I've turned it off now. Honestly." The exchange in which Choi Hyun-wook asked, "Am I being scolded?" and Kim Taeri shot back, "Do you get indigestion when I talk like this?" became a hot topic online.
However, as some short videos focusing on the two's disagreement spread, criticism of Choi Hyun-wook's attitude followed. Choi Hyun-wook addressed this in a July interview, asking those who only saw the shorts to watch the full episode and see the whole context. Regarding his relationship with Kim Taeri, he drew a line under rumors of discord, saying, "I am still in close contact with Taeri nuna."
Known for roles in Weak Hero Class 1 and Twenty Five Twenty One, Choi Hyun-wook has continued his leading roles up to Notes from the Last Row. Having shown his presence not only in acting but also on variety shows through Curtain Up, Class, reactions to this drunken live broadcast have continued.
