Model-turned-actress Choi Yeon-su offered practical advice to a new mom struggling with "breastfeeding shaming."
Choi Yeon-su held a Q&A with fans on the 31st, and one internet user said, "Haven't you been subjected to breastfeeding shaming at postpartum care centers or by older people? I want to switch to formula now, but I feel sorry for my baby because of the breastfeeding shaming," voicing her worries.
Choi, who became a mother this year, said, "I also heard a lot, "The baby was born small, but your milk supply is high, it's good for the baby," so much that while I was weaning I felt guilty and regretted it and even considered relactation, but my body really got damaged," and added, "Because of nursing positions my neck became rounded, my wrist hurts from having to hold him so he can feed well, and even after pumping and having my husband feed him, it still ends up being all the mother's responsibility so there is no time to rest. Also, breastfeeding makes your belly go down quickly."
She continued, "Above all, after a month even my chest line changed and I felt a bit deflated so my self-esteem dropped. I really respect mothers who breastfeed. I did it only for a month and then stopped," and added, "But if people say, 'You lack maternal instinct because you feed formula, or what's with breastfeeding,' those who cannot produce breast milk do not have the right to comment. It's my baby that I put into my body; I love my child. If you don't do the childbirth and breastfeeding, then everything should be up to the mother," sharing her experience.
Meanwhile, Choi Yeon-su is the eldest daughter of famous chef Choi Hyun-seok and married Kim Tae-hyun of the band Dickpunks, who is 12 years her senior, last September. She later welcomed a healthy son in May this year.
