Broadcaster and former announcer Baek Ji-yeon confessed that she quite often experiences hypoglycemic symptoms.
On the 31st, a video titled "Could I be at risk too? Tried a 24-hour monitor and revealed shocking results" was posted on the YouTube channel "Now Baek Ji-yeon."
That day Baek Ji-yeon appeared with a patch on her arm. When production staff asked what kind of patch it was, she opened up, saying "I have never been diagnosed with diabetes, but sometimes the difficult periods I go through are due to low blood sugar."
She added, "Suddenly my energy drains, I feel like I have to eat something, and it feels like the battery instantly dropped to 1%," saying she sometimes experiences hypoglycemic symptoms, which drew attention.
She said, "In Korea, the population up to the prediabetes stage exceeds 70% among people in their 60s. There are also an unbelievable number in their 20s, which surprised me," and added, "Many doctors say there is no need to overreact or obsess over the numbers. I tend to agree."
Recently she learned that there is something called a continuous glucose monitor and checked her blood sugar, saying, "What scared me was seeing my postprandial blood sugar rise to 150, 170."
She said she rode a stationary bike and did weights but her blood sugar did not go down. Baek Ji-yeon confessed, "It turned out the duration of a blood sugar spike is two and a half hours," and "That day I ate chicken breast and salad, and white rice with seasoning on the side."
Meanwhile, Baek Ji-yeon debuted as an MBC 15th class recruited announcer in 1987 and carried out her activities. After marrying in 1995 she had a son; she divorced after four years, remarried in 2001 but divorced six years later and raised her son alone. In particular, her son drew attention in 2023 when he married the daughter of Jung Mong-won, chairman of HL Group.
