Comedian Kim Won-hoon voiced his convictions about variety shows, only to be thoroughly put in his place by one remark from Yu Jae-seok.
On the 30th episode of SBS 'Running Man', Kim Won-hoon and Kwon Eun-bi appeared as guests. Kim Won-hoon, who recently won the best male entertainer award at the Blue Dragon Series Awards, hinted that he would show a side different from his usual broadcast persona that day.
Kim Won-hoon said he had a 'real Won-hoon' and a 'fake Won-hoon' and declared he would show his unexaggerated true self just for that day. Then he chose Lee Moon-sae's 'In the rain' and immersed himself in the song, removing even the traces of a smile.
The problem was that the fast pace of 'Running Man' and Kim Won-hoon's sensibility did not easily meet. As he continued the song seriously from a long intro, the members began to put the brakes one by one. Eventually Kim Won-hoon counterattacked as if he had something to say. He said, "I come on variety shows and this should be fixed," adding, "Why does a comedian have to be funny every time?" to express his thoughts.
But the reply from Yu Jae-seok was decisive. Yu Jae-seok shot back, "How about you fix it a bit? I think it's better if you're funny every time." Yang Se-chan also backed Yu Jae-seok, saying the funny side is better, and Haha delivered the knockout line, "We invited you because you're funny," turning the scene into a sea of laughter.
Coincidentally, just a month earlier Kim Won-hoon shed hot tears as his 'being funny' was recognized. He won the best male entertainer award at the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards held on July 7.
When Kim Won-hoon went on stage at the time, he mixed in his characteristic humor as he continued his acceptance speech and choked up when mentioning his colleagues. In particular, he showed tears saying to Cho Jin-se and Eom Ji-yoon, who had been with him for a long time, "Jin-se and Ji-yoon, who were with me when there was nothing, thank you so much. You filled my shortcomings so I could receive this award."
Among distinguished entertainers, Kim Won-hoon, who cried as his laughter was recognized, a month later asked the question, "Do I have to be funny every time?" but received the cheerful prescription "You fix it" directly from veteran entertainer Yu Jae-seok, creating another laugh.
