'The secret of the celeb soldier' was canceled after 1 year and 8 months without a final farewell.
KBS2 entertainment show 'The secret of the celeb soldier' ended with episode 70, 'The unique style and color painting world of Cheon Kyung-ja,' which aired on the 25th.
Regarding this, the side of 'The secret of the celeb soldier' officially stated, "It is correct that it was canceled with the broadcast on Aug. 25 as the last." They said that although there had been strong public opposition to the cancellation, many viewers were also disappointed as it ended.
In particular, although the show ran for nearly two years, the final episode omitted farewell greetings or closing remarks from the cast announcing the end, leaving viewers disappointed.
'The secret of the celeb soldier' first aired on Dec. 10, 2024, and is Korea's first medical storytelling program that spans world history, science and the humanities. It dealt with the life, aging, illness and death of historical figures and modern celebrities in an engaging way both domestically and internationally. Singer Le Chanwon, comedian and broadcaster Jang Do-youn, and the doctor-turned-original-author of The Trauma Code: Heroes on call, Lee Nak-jun, served as fixed MCs, and guests appropriate to each episode's topic appeared to share a variety of stories.
Season 1 ended in Mar. 2025, season 2 aired from Apr. to June of the same year, and it returned as a regular program from Sept. It recorded ratings in the 1–3% range, and because it was full of informative content it maintained a loyal viewership. The Feb. episode this year featuring Koo Jun-yeob and the late Seohee won tremendous attention.
However, in May of this year KBS said it expected a deficit and began tightening its budget, announcing it was considering canceling three programs: 2TV's 'The secret of the celeb soldier', 1TV's 'Charles next door', and 'Senior talk show Golden pond'. Production teams and the KBS headquarters of the National Union of Mediaworkers strongly protested, saying "there was no clear explanation from management regarding the criteria for cancellation," and issued statements, but ultimately the cancellations could not be avoided.
