Actor Mu Jin-seong showed a powerful presence in the Netflix series Mousetrap by vividly portraying Son Soohyun's shifting emotions, from calm and composed moments to times swept by anxiety and terror.
Mu Jin-seong played accountant Son Soohyun in the Netflix series Mousetrap, which was released in full on the 28th. Mousetrap is a pursuit thriller that follows novelist Moon Jae, who has had his name, face and life completely stolen by the mysterious entity "Mousetrap"; loan shark Noja, who is trying to recover lost money; and detective Sun-yong as they chase the identity of Mousetrap.
In the drama, Soohyun is Moon Jae's only friend; Moon Jae (played by Ryu Jun-yeol) has not left the house for three years due to panic disorder. She handled various outside affairs on his behalf, supporting his daily life, and in the past she helped persuade Moon Jae to carry out a plan to divert Noja's (played by Sul Kyung-gu) money. Because she managed Moon Jae's name, accounts and money, she is both his closest friend and the person at the starting point of the case.
Soohyun appears to be a dependable friend who takes care of Moon Jae, but even in ordinary moments of joking back and forth she creates an odd atmosphere with expressions and tones that make her inner thoughts hard to read. Mu Jin-seong heightened curiosity about the character by revealing Soohyun's inscrutable side through restrained speech, subtly changing expressions and shifts in gaze.
As threats against her intensified, she revealed Soohyun's anxiety and unease with trembling eyes and a hardened expression. Especially when pursued by Noja and Moon Jae, she unleashed suppressed fear all at once, raising the emotional intensity. He convincingly portrayed the process from confidently pushing the plan forward to gradually being consumed by extreme terror, completing a three-dimensional depiction of Soohyun's transformation.
Notably, Mu Jin-seong is currently appearing to viewers in a completely different-toned role in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama A Bona fide Killer. He plays Ki-youngdo, assistant manager of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics and a genius hacker, supporting operations with exceptional information and technical skills while showing a caring attentiveness to those around him, emotions that wobble only in front of Yoo Bo-na (played by Kong Hyojin), and unexpectedly clumsy moments, adding to the character's charm with diverse facets.
While he built tension as the unreadable Soohyun in Mousetrap, in A Bona fide Killer he offers both wit and romance through Ki-youngdo, who alternates between cool professionalism and human flaws, displaying different charms.
Mu Jin-seong has been showing differently textured characters across broadcast and OTT series. Through various works such as Birthcare Center, Can We Be Strangers, The Tyrant, Typhoon Family, Boyfriend on Demand and the film Genre Only Romance, he has steadily expanded his acting range by showing different faces depending on genre and character.
