Hwang Seok-jung recalled memories of being hurt by appearance prejudice.
The episode that aired on the 29th on MBN 'Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night' (hereinafter Day and Night) featured Im Hyun-sik and Hwang Seok-jung.
Hwang Seok-jung confessed that she once left for home while auditioning in the past. Hwang Seok-jung recalled, "I worked hard (on the acting) and they said I was fine. But they told me to come again. It turned out the youngest member of the production team had taken the audition. This time they said the assistant director would see me. During the third audition the director came in. He said let's try one more time. It was the fourth time. I became so exhausted. I was so upset. They told me to try this and that, so I just said I would go home," recalling the upsetting memory.
Hwang Seok-jung also mentioned the wounds she received because of her appearance. She said, "In the past there were times when people were uncomfortable seeing a face like mine on TV or in movies. The energy I have is also primitive. When I appear, everyone thinks I'm a local or… they especially thought Hwanghae was from the Yanbian ethnicity. They think I'm all local people," she said.
She continued, "It felt unfair. It should be known that the actor worked hard. They said, 'A woman who looks like that shouldn't appear.' Even when I was in school a professor said, 'You will have a hard time appearing in the media.' My voice too. Parts that are neither feminine nor masculine," she said, recalling having heard cruel comments about her appearance.
Hwang Seok-jung added, "When I hear those things I try it thinking, 'Would it really be like that?' That is the energy that has brought me this far," showing her positive and challenging character.<
