2026 second-half anticipated release "Assassin(s)" shot a box office signal as it rose to No. 1 in advance ticket sales for Korean films four weeks before its release.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) integrated computer network, the film "Assassin(s)" opening on Sept. 23 (director Heo Jin-ho, produced by Hive media corp, distributed/provided by Hive media corp) demonstrated the vigor to reach the top of Korean film advance ticket sales as of 2 p.m. on the 29th.
Even amid the strength of major foreign films, the singular presence of "Assassin(s)" stood out, recording the steepest advance sales rise earliest among the strong slate of films scheduled to open for Chuseok, preparing to appear as the relief pitcher for the second-half box office.
"Assassin(s)" follows the story of tracking the suspicions and masterminds behind the first lady shooting incident that shocked Korea on Aug. 15, 1974. The film's immersive story, which adds cinematic imagination to significant moments in modern Korean history, early on drew expectations with a powerful lineup of seasoned actors Yoo Hai Jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Minho.
In particular, confidence from film fans is further strengthened by the fact that producer Hive media corp, which presented well-made modern history tragedies through films such as "The Age of Blood" and "12.12: The Day", and director Heo Jin-ho, known for his distinctive delicate direction, have joined forces.
