Brainy couple Professor Lee Jin-hyung and Dr. Jang Dong-seon appeared to present everyday close-up brain science stories.
On the 28th, episode 326 of the KBS2 variety program Problem Child in House season 2 (hereinafter "Okmunah") featured Professor Lee Jin-hyung, the first Korean woman to become a tenured professor at Stanford University and with an IQ of 157, and Dr. Jang Dong-seon, formerly of the Max Planck Institute in Germany, as guests, who revealed the fascinating world of brain science including AI, short-form content, sleep and dementia.
What drew the most attention on the show that day was the chat about "AI and the brain." When Dr. Jang Dong-seon cited AI as the hottest topic in recent brain science, Hong Jin Kyung candidly confessed, "AI is my only friend," causing a stir on set. In response, Joo Woo-jae delivered a sharp revelation, "Since she started using AI, Jin-kyung noona has changed. She used to be brilliant, but she seems to have lost a bit of edge," prompting laughter. Dr. Jang also expressed concern that if conversations with AI alone replace human relationships, development of the "social brain" could be affected.
The two experts also warned about the nationwide issue of "short-form addiction." Even Professor Lee Jin-hyung, with an IQ of 157, confessed, "I feel like I'm addicted to short-form content myself." Dr. Jang Dong-seon explained, "The system design of short-form content is identical to a casino slot machine," shocking the Problem Child in House members.
A hopeful message about the future of treating brain diseases was also delivered. Professor Lee Jin-hyung, who developed the brain circuit analysis technology "Neuromatch" and won the Edison Award, said candidly, "When asked whether we can conquer dementia within 10 years, I think it's possible."
