Broadcaster Kim So-young candidly shared the trial and error she experienced before establishing herself as a businesswoman.
On the 26th, Kim So-young recalled the cookie business she once ran while communicating with followers on her social media. Responding to reactions regretting the closure, she revisited the experience, saying, "Looking back now, I may seem cautious, but I think I'm the type to dive in without really knowing."
In particular, Kim So-young said, "Looking back on 10 years of business, if I had understood the business structure even a little, I wouldn't have done the cookie business," and added, "Even though it sold a lot, it was unprofitable," drawing attention.
She explained that the care put into the product actually became a burden in terms of profitability. Kim So-young said the slow process of making the cookies required a lot of labor, and she insisted on using high-quality ingredients such as Valrhona. While she confidently said the quality was "irreplaceable," she added the reason was "because there truly wasn't anything left."
She also shared the practical lessons she gained from running the business herself. She said food businesses can survive only by managing both costs and production efficiency together, but that part was not easy for her, adding, "I don't think I'll run a business that produces food directly in the future."
She explained the background for having to wind down the business at the time, saying that unlike cosmetics or health supplements, it was relatively difficult for food to achieve economies of scale while using good raw materials.
Meanwhile, Kim So-young, a former MBC announcer, expanded her activities as a businesswoman after leaving the company by running a bookstore and launching a personal brand. She is married to Oh Sang-jin and has one son and one daughter.
