Reality star and cosmetics entrepreneur Kylie Jenner (29) finally spoke directly about the past controversy that shook the world over her being the "youngest self-made billionaire".
On the 27th (local time), in a photo interview with fashion outlet Who What Wear, Kylie Jenner discussed the years-long self-made controversy and offered candid confessions as a mother in her 20s.
Earlier, Forbes released a selection in 2019 naming Kylie Jenner, who was 21 at the time, the "world's youngest self-made billionaire," announcing that she had broken the record held by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. However, the public sharply criticized whether it was appropriate to attach the label "self-made" to someone from a wealthy, famous family with millions of dollars.
Regarding this, Kylie Jenner said, "Not a single penny I earned was inherited. Therefore, (technically) I am self-made," while also acknowledging public perception by saying, "But people feel the privileges I enjoyed were the decisive stepping stones for my business success."
In fact, Forbes has revised its estimate of her current assets to about $670 million (about 90 billion won), but at the time of the past controversy it also explained the reason for the title selection, saying, "It is true she received significant help from her family, but she did not inherit the business; she built it herself."
Meanwhile, Kylie Jenner, who currently has two children with rapper Travis Scott—a daughter, Stormi (8), and a son, Aire (4)—also openly spoke about the hardships she experienced from becoming a mother at a young age.
She recalled, "When I turned 25 I promised myself, 'I won't have any more children and will enjoy my late 20s.' In my early 20s, after pregnancy and childbirth and recovery and postpartum depression, I felt like I lost a bit of my young life."
Kylie Jenner, who was also publicly dating actor Timothy Chalamet, revealed a more mature set of values ahead of turning 30 next year. She said frankly, "When I was young I was obsessed with buying a huge house in Beverly Hills and living a glamorous life, but as life became too big I realized I briefly lost control. Now I want to put that flashy life behind me."
